background | Mucin 4 (MUC4) is a large membrane-anchored glycoprotein of the mucins family, which is expressed by epithelial cells in a variety of normal tissues such as lung, bronchus, stomach, colon and cervix. MUC4 is not normally present in the normal pancreas, but it is expressed in the vast majority of pancreatic tumors, such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. In addition, the expression of various carcinomas has been reported, including gastric adenocarcinoma, colon adenocarcinoma, and lung adenocarcinoma. |
